iClip 3.0 è gratis !!!
MacZot! (che ci ha già fregato una volta fingendo di rendere l’applicazione AppZapper! gratuita….) ha deciso di rendere freeware l’applicazione iClip (che altrimenti costerebbe 19,95 dollari) dal oggi fino al due Luglio.
Il programma risulta abbastanza utile e consente di copiare negli appunti più cose che si potranno poi ritrovare in una apposita barra.
Da notare che se però andiamo in fondo alla pagina possiamo leggere che ben presto verrà rilasciato iClip 4 che sembra apportare notevoli cambiamenti, soprattutto nell’interfaccia grafica.
Quale client FTP scegliere?
Bad, Bad, Very Bad, Bad….. Stando a quanto viene scritto in questo post che cerca di analizzare le funzioni e gli errori dei vari client FTP esistenti per Macintosh non esiste un programma decente (apparte Cyberduck, che si becca un bel GOOD) per caricare file su un server web….
With this fancy new blog you see here it became clear I needed a good ftp client solution. At this point I have not found the right solution but I wanted to keep track of my adventures. So far I have found only one comprehensive list of Apple Mac OSX ftp clients and servers. To be clear, I am looking for something that provides the same functionality as something like FileZilla. Features like SFTP or FTP-SSL were not critical. The mirroring features were nice and kept me going through the software to find an alternative to the Darwin BSD OSX ftp command line.
- First problem is that the usernames for the hosting service I am dealing with have “@” signs in them.
- There are php temp files that the afforementioned user can not read because of very restrictive permissions.
Interarchy: BAD - This software seems to provide all the technical functionality I am looking for. I may go back to it after a while, but the major problem is that is tries to be an “OSX Finder”. Bookmarks to webpages in ftp software? Rendevoux connectivity? Rendevoux is a LAN sharing protocol, not WAN. It also like to have a different window for each function rather than adding to the main window. The menu has what seems like dozens of ways to open an ftp connection, forcing you to make a decision about what you want to do, before opening the connection. In the end I fuddled through the menu system and ended up mounting the local ftp site to a local blank directory. The software decided that instead of downloading what was on the server, what I really wanted was to delete my site so that everything was nice and empty! I did find a glowing review of Interarchy. I am originally a Unix/Windows user, so I think finder is clunky and dumbed down.
Cyberduck: GOOD - Opensource GPL ftp client, OSX universal compilation. Good stuff so far. Not enough features from what I can see in the short time I tried it, but given my experiences so far, I may come back.
FTPeel: VERY BAD - Thier Magic Mirror function was cool conceptually. However there was ZERO documentation and I actually did random google searches until I stumbled on a review that gave me some clues. I ended up getting an error and on top of all that, the 15 minute timer on the evaluation closed the program out from under me while try to learn how to use it. No thanks.
Vicomsoft: BAD - I had pretty high hopes for this software. Unfortunately despite finding and checking the option in preferences to “Skip” when encountering errors… it still errored and halted when it ran into the read permission problem.
Transmit: BAD - Transmit would hang and lock during transfers from time to time. It would also choke on the php temp file permissions issue mentioned, item #1.
Fetch: BAD - This software hung/locked several times during transfers. I may go back to this later, but the reality pointed out by other reviewers is that this software has very basic functionality. Save the $25 and use Cyberduck instead.
OSX Finder: BAD - This revealed a hole in the OSX “Connect to server” which required at translation of the username from “username@domain.com” to “username%40username.com”. This did not work one step later when I went to insert credentials, each time I had to convert back from “%40″ to “@”. Sad.

Update2: Su internet c’è anche un’altro sito che offre lo stesso servizio uguale identico con in più la possibilità di utilizzare nella fotografia l’iPod Shuffle invece del Video e di ordinare le immagini in tutti i colori (Green, Blue, Orange, …).
Un’altro piccolo (e conveniente) cambiamento lo possiamo notare nel prezzo: solo 5.99 dollari (anche se, a mio parere, osservando i lavori online, la qualità del risultato mi sembra inferiore)

Skype Video Beta per Mac OS X
Su alcuni siti web è comparsa una versione BETA di Skype “video” per Mac.
In realtà si tratta di una beta di una vera e propria nuova versione del software, perchè non è stata soltanto aggiunta la funzionalità di videochiamata ma anche quella dei messaggi personali, senza dimenticare una migliore interfaccia grafica, ora più consona al nuovo aspetto di OS X.
Per ora è molto instabile ed è comunque possibile provare a utilizzarla scaricandola da http://tussey.dreamhosters.com/Skype_BETA.dmg o da http://davidbt.com/skypebeta.dmg.
Da poco è inoltre online sul blog ufficiale di Skype un articolo nel quale viene vivamente sconsigliata l’installazione di questa versione (potrebbe infatti causare la perdita dei contatti) del software che, stando a quando viene detto nel post, risale a due mesi fa e nel frattempo il team di sviluppo ha fatto enormi progressi.
L’articolo finisce regalandoci uno screenshoot della futura realse e promettendo a tutti gli utenti Mac che ben presto verrà rilasciato il nuovo Skype con funzioni video anche per loro.

Pre-realse di Leopard
Su un blog è stato pubblicato un video che, secondo il blogger, mostrerebbe la pre-versione di Leopard.
Purtroppo però il link postato sul sito non permette di vedere il filmato in quanto rimanda a una pagina di Box.net che avvisa che è stato raggiunto il limite massimo di banda concesso dal servizio.
Fortunatamente ci sono dei link alternativi per vedere/scaricare il filmato, che si può trovare anche su YouTube.

Presentato ufficialmente il Nintendo Wii
Nintendo ha presentato da poco la sua nuova console (Wii) ai negozianti coreani e giapponesi.
Inoltre sembrerebbe che la la data del rilascio sia sempre più determinata: per ora si parla di Novembre 2006.
Il costo dovrebbe aggirarsi intorno ai €249/299.
Il sito Ruliweb.com riporta proprio delle notizie circa questo evento.
Per chi non lo sapesse, Wii è la prossima console Nintendo.
Wii sta ad indicare “noi”. Ciò fa pensare a una console accessibile a tutti.
