Il nuovo iChat avrà funzioni VoIP
AppleInsider scrive che secondo lui al Keynote di Steve Jobs (che si terrà il 7 Agosto) vedremo la comparsa di una nuova versione di iChat, integrata in Leopard (che verrà presentato al pubblico per la prima volta in quei giorni), che avrà funzioni di VoIP (Voice Over IP) e che dunque permetterà (come Skype) di effettuare chiamate da un computer all’altro, ai telefoni fissi e mobili.
People familiar with recent builds of the software say voice over IP (VoIP) Internet dialing is just one of several new features in iChat 4.0, which Apple is expected to bundle with the operating system overhaul, code-named Leopard.
The move will pit the Apple-branded video conferencing and instant message software against existing VoIP solutions from the likes of Skype, Google and Microsoft.
Skype, which began as a small software startup in 2003, is largely accredited with popularizing free Internet telephony through its self-titled software application. The Luxembourg-based company was recently acquired by eBay. It boasts a userbase of over 100 million and offers its software in 27 different languages.
Recently other industry heavyweights have looked to get in on the VoIP craze. Just this month, Microsoft added VoIP features to Windows Live Messenger, which will be available to users of its forthcoming Vista operating system. Meanwhile, Google wedged its foot in the door last year with public beta release of Google Talk, a similar software-based service.
If reports pan out, VoIP functionality won’t be the only feature of Apple’s Leopard to rival similar offerings from both Google and Microsoft. Earlier this month, sources reported that Apple also appears ripe to introduce a geographic mapping solution with Leopard, similar to Microsoft’s Virtual Earth and Google’s Maps.
The Apple software, which is simply dubbed “Maps,” is also rumored to employ GPS functionally. In the future, the Cupertino, Calif.-based company may leverage the technology to help track stolen Macs or iPods, people familiar with the software have said.
A team of Apple executives is scheduled to formally unveil Leopard during the second week of August at the company’s annual World Wide Developers Conference. Although Apple has so far referred to the operating system as “Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard,” there’s a strong possibility that name will change, sources have said.

Apple si allea con CocaCola
Stando a quanto si può leggere in rete Apple sembra aver deciso di abbandonare Pepsi (suo partner da molto tempo) per allearsi con CocaCola.
La mela sembra infatti avere in mente di realizzare con quest’ultima una nuova campagna che vedrà come protagonisti l’iTunes Music Store e la nuova CocaCola zero calorie; probabilmente la promozione sarà simile a quella precedentemente realizzata con Pepsi (con la quale potevi vincere una canzone nello store musicale) e prevederà sconti e altro all’interno dell’iTunes Music Store.
Peccato che la “campagna”, per ora, sembra verrà realizzata solo nel Regno Unito.
Coca-Cola is to team up with Apple for a substantial iTunes promotional initiative as part of the launch strategy for its calorie-free Coke Zero brand.
The soft-drinks firm is negotiating a deal with Apple that will see Coca-Cola-sponsored content appear on iTunes, and its consumers offered iTunes discounts.
The deal follows the closure of download site Mycokemusic last week. The site, which launched in 2004, featured more than 250,000 songs, but music files downloaded from it were not compatible with Apple’s iPod.
Music has been one of the key battlegrounds between Coca-Cola and arch-rival Pepsi, and insiders believe the iTunes tie-up could help Coca-Cola maintain its edge in the competitive UK soft-drinks market.
Last summer, Pepsi launched a ‘Pepsi Max Downloaded’ initiative. An on-pack promotion on 100m Pepsi packs offered consumers the chance to meet stars including Natasha Bedingfield, Ms Dynamite, Westlife, Girls Aloud and McFly.
Pepsi secured a similar deal to Coca-Cola with Apple in the US in 2004, with a deal to distribute 1m songs through Apple’s iTunes online music store.
In the US, Coca-Cola already runs its own branded music and entertainment website Stageside.tv.
Availabot
Se fosse in vendita l’avrei già comprato, non per la sua utilità, anzi, probabilmente di utile ha ben poco, però è un gadget veramente pazzesco e simpatico che fa molto Geek.
Cos’è?
Si chiama Availabot ed è un pupazzetto che si attacca al computer mediante la presa Usb e che si eregge o si accascia (come quei pupazzi con il pulsante sotto la base) se una persona si collega o discollega al messenger che si sta utilizzato (iChat, Msn, ecc.).

Leopard verrà presentato al WWDC: e’ ufficiale
Apple ha ufficialmente annunciato che il 7 Agosto alle ore 10 di San Francisco (19 in Italia) si terrà il Keynote di Steve Jobs al WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference) e durante questo verrà presentata una preview del tanto atteso Mac Os X 10.5 ovvero Leopard.
Oltre a Steve sul palco ci saranno Philip Schiller, Bertrand Serlett e Scott Forstall.
Apple® today announced that CEO Steve Jobs will headline a team of Apple executives, including Philip Schiller, senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing; Bertrand Serlet, senior vice president of Software Engineering; and Scott Forstall, vice president of Platform Experience, to kick off the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) with a keynote preview of Mac OS® X “Leopard” on Monday, August 7, 2006, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at San Francisco’s Moscone West. Throughout WWDC, developers will receive detailed information and best practices on developing Universal applications that take advantage of the performance of Intel-based Macs, including special sessions on performance optimization using Apple software development tools.
The five-day event, which runs from August 7 to August 11, will deliver more than 175 technical sessions and labs with new content designed to serve a wide range of Mac® developers, including tracks that preview Leopard and dozens of hands-on labs providing opportunities to work developer-to-developer with Apple engineers.

Lo slogan di questi dovrebbe essere On your lap. In your dorm room (Sulle tue gambe. Nella tua stanza) e fin qui andrebbe tutto bene se, una volta aperto il manuale del portatile, non trovassimo scritta una frase che ci avverte che il prodotto in questione è un notebook e non un latop e dunque è consigliabile evitare qualsiasi contatto con le gambe o con qualsiasi altra parte del nostro corpo.
Apple comunque non ha ignorato la questione e dopo la segnalazione ha prontamente cambiato lo slogan in Anywhere you want.
