When Apple rolls out Keynote 4 as part of iWork ‘07 next year, customers will notice a myriad of subtle refinements more than any particularly notable new feature, sources who have seen the software tell Think Secret.
With three versions under its belt already, Keynote is already largely a reflection of what Apple envisioned when it first embarked on creating a more Mac-like competitor to Microsoft’s PowerPoint. Keynote 4 will see the addition of at least a half dozen new themes, most of which will reflect the simple elegance of popular themes like the current Gradient and Blackboard offerings. New themes featuring animation will also make their debut in Keynote 4, and more themes will scale to a maximum resolution of 1920×1080.

Apple is also said to be considering offering additional themes for download, presumably for a small price, but sources were unaware of additional details surrounding those plans.

New animations and text transitions will also be wrapped into Keynote 4, while a new option will make it easy for users to specify their preferred settings for each and save them for future use.

Keynote will also gain support for exporting presentations to an iPod friendly format for presentations on the go, as well as podcasting. In addition, some level of iWeb integration through the Export command is said to be under development.

Keynote 4, along with the previously reported Pages 3 and a new spreadsheet/charting application, will round-out the applications in Apple’s iWork suite for 2007.
